HI

I play a lot of video files, and seem to have problems playing any media format that ends in avi.

Windows Media player downloads a codec then plays video, but doesn't seem to have any sound. I've tried many different avi files and it seems to be the same. MPG etc works fine.

Any idea's?

Thanks :)

Hi Eddie, thanks for the prompt reply (local Yorkshire lad too ;) )

Downloaded the codecs you linked to and re-booted, but sadly it's still the same. The video plays fine but still no sound. I've tried several files now, and when it's over 300MB of downloading per video, it's not something you can keep trying ..lol

Thanks anyway, anything else I could try?

Do you have a sound card or on-board sound? I have on-board sound and I cannot get sound on a lot of games. Perhaps to add a sound card with the latest drivers will be of help. Gary

I don't know if there is a way. Have you got DivX?

http://www.divx.com/divx/index.php

You don't need to use the Player, but it downloads anyway. Also, which version is it?

So, are you from good ol' Yorkshire?

Thanks guys :)
- still no sound though :(

Gary - I use onboard sound with the latest drivers for it. I've been considering getting a sound card for enhanced sound so I may have to wait until I get one if thats the case.

Eddie - Downloaded the player and tried it anyway, but same again. Picture, just no sound.

If it is my onboard sound, I guess no software will cure it. ;)

Aye, from Yorkshire also - Halifax.

Hiya

Sorry for the late reply. Have you managed to get this solved? One thought did spring to mind. Does this only occur with ALL avi films? What I mean is, have you tried downloading from a different site? Some avi's are not uploaded correctly, so the installation of a codec may still not produce any sound.

Are these downloaded from the web or from newsgroups?

Here is a link to an avi which I know has sound. Its 2.56MB long, so bear with it. Just did a quick look for something:

Thanks for the reply Eddie.

I'd put it down to my sound card untill you gave that link (loved it btw :)).

The movies I use are downloaded from Morpheous (Episodes really, not movies) so I guess once one file has no sound, it quickly spreads. Ah well, least I know my sound card works ok.

Thanks once again.
