i have win xp pro and i go to run and type regedit to get into my registry and it says windows cannot find regedit , how can i get this back

Search for it. It should be in C:\Windows.

If it is, then your environment variables need fixing.

If it isn't, you need to load it from the XP CD.

Insert the CD and Exit if it autoruns.

Go to Start > Run, and type:

expand -r D:\i386\regedit.ex_ C:\Windows\

(if C: is your system drive and D: is your CD-ROM drive).

it also could possible be some infection which has diabled it, i have seen this before, try doing all the usual scans, maby post a hijack log which somebody can take a look at,

Before posting the log, you might as well download a good Spyware and Trojan Removal program to see if it solves the problem first.

Spybot Search and Destroy:

SpySweeper:
There is also a good spyware program at:
http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/spysweeper/index.php
This will also protect your home page from being hijacked.

Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoft.de/

With any of the above three programs, just like with Anti-Virus software, should have the latest updates installed before doing a scan.

CWShredder:
