I recently reformated my computer's harddrive, reinstalling everything including Windows XP SP2. I was trying to open iTunes and got a script error saying I had no playback. Looking into all my audio settings, my speakers are not recognized. My computer seems to think I have NO sound card and NO drivers (other than the default drivers that come with XP, but since it thinks I don't have a sound card, that's usuless to me). To be honest, I don't know what my sound card is, but I know it's there because I was usuing it two days ago.

So, how do I tell the computer that I do have a sound card and get all my audio working again?

~~~~Thanks muchly
your computer needs to know about your particular sound card
and video, even if these are on the motherboard.
if you are using sound from on the motherboard then you need
to use the cd that came with the motherboard to install audio
drivers. this also applies to video functions if using video
from the motherboard. also usb functions and ethernet
need to be brought about this way.
if you are using a separate sound card (or video or
ethernet ) then a cd that came with those cards is
needed to cause them to be recognized.
I don't have those cds.... everything came on my computer already and I don't have access to any back ups. The only things that came with the computer were the programs such as Windows. This is the second time I've had to reformat, and last time there was a way around it, but that was so long ago that I can't remember what I'm supposed to be doing.
Could there be an alternative for me since I don't have the CDs?
if you are using the sound off the motherboard then go to the website
for that motherboard and download the drivers from there.
First tell us what make and model your computer is. We may just be able to help you find the manufacturers website to download the required drivers files. If not major brand then the Make and model of your Motherboard will help.
