I have just installed a US Robotics Performance Pro modem and when I switch user to a limited or guest account I get an error message that no modem is found. What do I do?

Hi

Did you create a dialup connection with the modem while logged on with the admin account? If you didn't, log back in and create one and make sure you put a tick in "anyone who uses this computer" in the connection properties window.

mike5532g, it is a 5610b. I've read alot of mixed reviews about it, so far this is the only problem I see. When I first installed it I wasn't able to use all the features but after changing it from Com5 to Com6 all the features work and it increased my connection from 28.8 to 36. I live in a rural area with OLD phone lines.

Yes daveware, I did that.

I am now getting recognition of the modem in my limited account, but not in my guest account. I changed the limited account to an administrator account and the modem was recognized. Then connected to the internet, shut down, went back and changed the account back to a limited and now there's no problem. Still trying to figure out the guest account though.

Sounds like your having better luck with it than I did. I not sure about this, but I believe that you can't start a internet session with a guest account. This could be the reason you can't see the modem.

This is from Help and Support:

The guest account is intended for use by someone who has no user account on the computer. There is no password for the guest account, so the user can log on quickly to check e-mail or browse the Internet. A user logged on to the guest account:

Cannot install software or hardware, but can access applications that have already been installed on the computer.
Cannot change the guest account type.
Can change the guest account picture.
