Hey, all. I recently (last night) went through a forced Windows 10 update. Even though I have that function set to ask me first. Good times. Anyways, I arrived this morning to find no access to the internet. This has happened once before, when first installing Windows 10. I restored Windows 7, then reinstalled Windows 10, and all was well. This time, even after rolling back to the last version? No internet. When I follow the recommended steps from every forum on the net, I hit a wall. I have:

-updated my network driver, and then rolled it back. There was never any ! or ? marks on it to begin with.
-tried to renew my DCHP, but all I get is the message no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation
- This happens with ipconfig /release after netsh winsock reset catalog followed by netsh int ip reset reset.log
When you hit ipconfig in CMD, it returns blank.
I have tried making my ip static, and ensuring that it isn't.
Windows has agreed to call me in 72 hours. That's a long time without internet, especially since TODAY IS MY DAY OFF (sigh).

What is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters?

What, if any, warnings or errors are in Device Manager?

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

[Press ENTER after the command.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is the only listed under Network Adapaters. I have tried rolling it back, updating through a USB, and uninstalling with a reset, to let Windows reinstall it.

When I run the diagnosis/troubleshooting on my adapter, I get
There might be a problem with the driver for the Ethernet adapter Not fixed Not Fixed
Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter.

I should mention that I'm running a desktop, perhaps. I have tried the internet (wired) on another computer with the same ethernet cord, and that's working well.

If you are using a firewall or security suite other than the Windows built-in one I suggest to uninstall it and run its Removal Tool if one is provided.

Install, or reinstall, the latest chipset (first) and ethernet (if not included with the other chipset) drivers obtained from the PC (or motherboard) manufacturer's web site.

I doubt that I'm going to think of anything else to try short of reinstalling (or maybe a "reset") of Windows 10.

I agree. A long list of tests and some comment from a friend lead me to believe that although it was working before, my motherboard is not compatible with Windows 10. Its a shame, its a gorgeous old Asus that's caused me zero grief before now. Thanks for the feedback.
