Hello all!

I am having some trouble with a new SSD card I installed.
The new SSD is Samsung 970 EVO PLUS M.2 2280 2TB

Here are the computer specs

SKU:
ST-BlazeII-0332-B-BU
CPU:
Intel Core i3 10100F 4-Core 3.6 GHz (4.3 GHz Max Boost)
Case:
Skytech Blaze II Tempered Glass Case
CPU Cooler:
Stock Air Cooler
Fans:
3x RGB Fans
Motherboard:
B560M
RAM:
16GB DDR4 3200 MHz
Graphics:
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 4GB
Primary Hard Drive:
500GB SSD
Power Supply:
600 Watt 80 Plus Gold
Networking:
802.11 ac
Operating System:
Windows 10 Home, 64-bit
Warranty:
1-Year Parts, Labor & Shipping Support, Lifetime Technical Support
Dimensions (H x W x D):
14.3 x 7.5 x 14.9
Weight (lbs):
22

Recently, I switched out the stock SSD and put in the EVO 970 (see image). The SSD shows however, I cannot escape BIOS, and any restart takes me right back to BIOS.

Note: I did notice that the heat shield for the new SSD is larger than the card, and does not "lock" in the SSD. There are other screw in options on the mother board but the heat shield won't fit into the smaller ones.

any help would be great!

The stock has the operating system installed on it. The motherboard has 2 connections. M_2 has the stock SSD and the M_1 has the new SSD with the heat shield.

When I installed the new SSD, it was not showing in Disk Management or BIOS. The heat shield is larger than my SSD card however, so I think it may just not be installed properly. I switched the cards to see if the new SSD would show up and it does. However, I have no idea how to get the operating system on the new card.

I want to install a second SSD so that I can move my game storage over to that.

No I have not. I have just tried the M_2 slot. I'll give that a shot. If they don't show up, could that mean that the port is disabled? I tried tech support through the supplier and they mentioned the motherboard could have that port disabled. Does that sound correct?

That's entirely possible, so you should check the manual for your motherboard for verification. Once you get that up & running, I recommend you look at this page for the Samsung Data Migration Software for Consumer SSD. This will help you clone your stock SSD to the Samsung SSD.

I checked out the manual for the motherboard.

This is what it gave me. Does anything hear show why the M_1 slot wouldn't work with the SSD?

Additionally, the layout of the motherboard does not match the layout from the model number given by the system info. Is that normal?

Your attachment shows the Samsung 970 in the M2_2 slot, did you put the 500 back in the M2_1 slot?? See

Thanks for the reply! The original build has the 500 in that location. I just assumed the new one would go in the available spot (with the heat shield).

So to clarify based off the manual. When I bought the computer, the original SSD (500) was in the M2_2 slot. The M2_1 slot was available. Do those need switched?

Yes, your boot drive with your operating system should be in M2_1 and your secondary in M2_2! If you only have one it doesn't matter unless the M2_2 is slower.

Can you try to select M2_1 in the bios with your mouse and press enter?? If not, go to page 11 &12(in the Bios500 manual) The Advanced sub-menu
â–¶ PCIe/PCI Sub-system Settings and make sure â–¶ PEG0 , â–¶ PEG1 , â–¶ PEG2, â–¶ PEG3 are all set to auto. Otherwise I would have to be hands on to troubleshoot. It could be the M2_1 is defective( that may have been why the boot drive was in M2_2) and you need to check with Skytech gaming for a warranty issue if it is less than a year old. https://skytechgaming.com/sku/st-blazeii-0332-b-bu/

You have the B560M Pro VDH Wifi and from your chart the 10t gen supports both M2 slots!! also F6 in the Bios does optimized defaults.

Evidently that bios manual is (Intel 500) is pretty generic and not exactly like yours, Way to go MSI! It seems like the only the second slot is showing a drive (M2_2) is showing a drive in your first attachment in you first post. Have you tried hitting F6 and saving? (optimized defaults)

Update, do you know how to update the Bios? I found it has to have version 7D18V12 to be able to use both slots! You have version 7D18iMS.H10 the very first one. You can update to 7D18V13 the latest if you want. Version 12 says " - Support M2 PCIE lanes switch function. " https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B560M-PRO-VDH-WIFI/support#down-bios

From: https://www.tech-critter.com/msi-b560-motherboard-m-2-slot-disabled/ PRO-VDH variants, these are designed with an internal switch that enables it to identify the CPU itself as to whether it is 10th gen or 11th gen and smartly adapts according to the chipset requirement. What they fail to say is you need Bios version 12 or higher for this to work!

MSI® HOW-TO use M-FLASH for single BIOS
I tried the BIOS update but had some issues. I used a normal USB and formatted it to NTFS and when I went into M-Flash the monitor said it couldn't detect a signal.

So then I ran AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard and formatted the USB to FAT32 and the same thing happened.

I turned the computer off/on and it then displayed with the M-Flash set-up. The USB showed up and the folder with the update was there as well. However, when I went to select it, it would only show ".." where the 7D18V14 update should be.

Do I need a certain USB for the update to work?

I Apologize, I linked you to the wrong Bios, seems there are Two B560M Pro VDH wifi's, How stupid of MSI to do this!! Looking at your first post I see you have the B560M Pro VDH wifi CEC version, not the regular and it has different Bios-es! You need 7D18vH2 Here: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/B560M-PRO-VDH-WIFI-CEC/support#down-bios I can't belive they would make two motherboards with almost the same name!!

Wow, I scanned the manual but missed that, (it is possible to get the storage another way). Hopefully the latest Bios will fix it. It mentions
- Update CPU Microcode
- Adjust PCIe Lanes setting

If that doesn't work you can do like I did. I only have 1 M2 slot on my board and I had 1TB Intel 660P M2(only 1800mbps speed. I bought a Samsung 970 evo 2TB on sale (3400 speed) and cloned my 1Tb to the Samsung, then I bought a PCIe NVMe Adapter with Heatsink (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GFDVXVJ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details ) and I put my old 1TB Intel 660p on it and plugged it in my extra PCIE X16 slot and use it for extra storage!
