Hi, I have this new Pavillion zx5060-I love it however, when I burn dvd+rw's (specifically Memorex 4x) I get constant write errors. I see I have 38 processes running in the background, but I'm new to XP, and don't know how to disable them from the start menu. I did the alt-cntrl-delete and disabled them manually, but got carried away each time and ended up shutting down the laptop) I doubt thats my problem though, I defragged, polished the dvd, disabled my wi-fi, norton. I running out of ideas, unless its just the memorex dvd+rws. Anyone give me clue? I see the burner in this laptop is a Toshiba SD-R6252 dvd+rw/cd-rw

Try writing at a lower speed. If that doesn't work, then maybe try a different brand of DVD recordable media. Imation discs are quite good, at least they worked well for me. TDK, HP and Sony discs seem pretty reliable, too. The least expensive media is often not the best value for the money.

Sometimes using different DVD writing software can fix the problem. Nero and NTI CD & DVD Maker Platinum Edition usually work well. Both vendors have free trial downloads at their websites.

It would also be a good idea to check HP's website to see if they have a firmware upgrade for your drive.
