Cable or DSL? Currently working on one machine?
How do you connect now? Automatic or do you need to use a PPOE dialer first?
What brand and model of router do you have?
Who's your broadband provider?

Its a cable modem, with NTL. Its working ok on the host machine, but when I connect both together using my router, I lose the connection on the host machin, and nothing on second machine also. Not sure what settings I need to make to both machines.

Turn everything off, computer, modem, router.
Connect the WAN or INTERNET port to the cable modem using a straight CAT5 cable.
Connect the machines to the LAN ports of the router with straight CAT5 cables.

Turn on the modem, let it sync to the ISP.
Turn on the router, give it a couple of minutes.
Turn on the machines, you should be connected.

Note that this assumes the TCP/IP configuration on the machines has not been changed from the default configuration.
