I am currently using windows 98 and plan to install XP on a new hard drive.

I have a VIA Technologies KM266-8233 system with a DFI AZ30-EL board with a 1666 MHz AMD Pentium III. The bios is Phoenix Technologies 6.00 PG 08/30/2002.

Will I have any capacity restrictions on the size hard drive I will purchase?

Wow I have to guess you did not read his post. He said he is installing Win XP on a new hard drive. To answer your question no you should not have a problem with the size of hard drive that you purchase. As long as your Windows XP cd has service pack 2 then Windows will be able to see above 132 Gb on installation.

With that bios date, you will probably need to update it if you want to use a drive larger than 137gig.

Updating the bios is a straightforward task, however read the instructions on the board maker's site. Done incorrectly a bios update can render your system unbootable.

Ladies, if I can break up the pissing match for a moment...
WinXP requires 1.5 gigs - minimum. That being said, any modern hard drive is just fine. Carry on.
Now girls, I don't want either of you to start scratchin' and pulling hair. We don't need any of that.

Fine I am still struggling with whole post trying to imagine an "AMD 1666 Pentium III"? And you really do need top know the bios date to go any further, because it sounds like a bios update will be necessary beyond 32 gb.
Yeah. I'm kind of lost on that bit, too. Kudos to the fella who invented the AMD Pentium. But yes, BIOS is most likely out of date by this point.

Folks, the BIOS is: Phoenix Technologies 6.00 PG 08/30/2002, and should support up to a 127 gig drive. You need to read the first post. ;)
