New cpu issues

I just upgraded from an i7 6700k to an i9 9900kf and as soon as I placed the new cpu in and presses the power button nothing happened, no fans nothing, after placing the old cpu in I know it is likely an issue with the new cpu. If there is any reason that I am not aware of that this should happen other than a faulty cpu please let me know.

Yes, big reason. A motherboard that supports a 6700K is NOT going to support a 9900 processor. Just because they are the same socket does NOT mean the board supports that cpu. The very first thing you do when attempting to upgrade a processor is to check the support page for the motherboard. That will list all supported processors.
Post the exact motherboard you are using and we can find all supported processors.
