In our shop, we have an 8 port networking hub. Connected to that hub are 3 Win98 machines, 2 WinNT machines and a Canon 8500 connected through a rip. We have just added a PowerMac G4 with OS X 10.2.1.
After working on Windows based systems for 17 years, this is my first experience with the Mac, so i'm just a bit lost trying to get this machine to talk to the others and having them talk back . . . nicely!
I have managed to get the Mac to show up on the network and find the Win98 machines by manually configuring the IP address on the Mac, and turning on file sharing. (due to a particular software we use, we've had to manually configure IP addresses on all machines, so this was easy enough to do on the Mac)
Problem now is that the Mac name that the Win98 machines see, they can't access. The Mac computer names shows up in Network Neighborhood, but when i select it, it tells me that name is not found or accessible. The Mac also does not see the WinNT's at all.
Any suggestions what to do next?
