Networking set up?

Hello, I hope i can explain this correctly! I have a new windowsXP and on my taskbar there is an icon that looks like 2 Computers and there is an X (in front of them)Now when i put my pointer on them (mouse) a sign comes up and says LOCAL AREA CONNECTION,A NETWORK CABLE IS UNPLUGGED. So i went to control panel and double clicked on Network connections and there were 3 items in there and the first said= AOL DISCONNECTED LUCENT WINDOW MODEM and the Second said= LOCAL AREA CONNECTION 3 ENABLED WAN NETWORK DRIVER and the Third said= LOCAL AREA CONNECTION NETWORK CABLE UNPLUGGED,REALTEK RTL8139 FAMILY PCIF... My Question is should the one that says UNPLUGGED(and it says the same thing with the pointer on my taskbar, BE PLUGGED IN??? I keep thinking since it has that X in front of it that it should not have it(X) there! Are these things ALL correctly (on or off) Please let me know and if you don't understand i will try to rephrase it. Thank you TOM

first off lets get some basics down, first are you really trying to network 2 or more pc's together? 2. if the answer is yes do you have a cat5 cable plugged into your network card. we'll go from there is this is what your trying to do; if not i wouldn't worry about it, its just that your pc obviously came with a nic (network card) retired huh lucky you
Jimi, I just wanted to know why it had that X in front of them but now i understand. also i am going to very soon try to set up my old pc with this xp, so i will get back to you when i am ready to do it! By the way its better to be healthy and working than be old and retired with alot of physical problems, Thanks again, signed Far From Lucky, TOM
I'm truly sorry, my brain took a break, didn't mean to offend you.
Heres to hoping all get well very soon. look forward to talking/helping in the future.
Hi, Jimi: Believe me, you did not offend me at all! Everything is just great. On the contrary I look forward to your help when i try to connect these two PC"S together! Thank You again and i will be in touch, TOM
