Hi,

My OS won't boot even after reinstalling so I'm trying to copy the files on D: (where most my files are) to my laptop using a network bootdisk so I can remove all partitions and start from scratch, but no luck.

trying to use the one here:

Bart's Network Boot Disk

http://www.nu2.nu/bootdisk/network/#niclist

In order to use the bootdisk, I need to select the correct driver plugin for my NIC. I've recently bought a new NIC because there was no driver plugin for my old one.

Problem is I have a D-Link DFE-530TX network adapter but I can't seem to install their driver plugin because its not detecting my card or something. It's plugged and in there's a light a back when I plug in the RJ45.

Something I need to do in the BIOS?

Otherwise, is there another one about that you know of?

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Perhaps you should try to determine why the O/S won't boot...

Thanks for the replies. I have no clue on why the OS won't boot. =( Tried removing partition, creating a new one, formatting, loading Windows on it again to no avail. My other thread was trying to sort this out but nothing worked. I think it's in the Hardware forum so now I want to back up all my stuff and remove both partitions.

Well, I'm progressing with the the boot disk option. I found a driver plugin that works with my new NIC. I've also managed to log in using TCP/IP. Just trying check whether I've used all the right settings and then to work out how to actually start copying stuff.

File version "D:i386ntdll.dll" is 5.1.2600.0 should be 5.1.2600.1045 or higher.
You must use Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Server 2003 version of winodws!

While you are using SP1, your installation files probably don't have SP1 slipstreamed into that directory. I found the same issue. :)

You can slipstream SP1 into a directory if you download the entire SP1 install file. There are a host of instructions on doing it, I don't happen to remember the exact process, but it's pretty easy.

By slipstreaming, do you mean manually chucking the files into the Windows directory to get the missing/not up-to-date ones?

I have SP1 on CD that came with my copy of Windows. Is that ok?
