Nero 6.6 Ultra dvd burn failure

4902 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  MysticEyes
I recently purchased Nero 6 Ultra, installed it, went to the website and downloaded and installed the upgrades and patches, but when I tried to burn a DVD for the first time, I received this error message: Unable to prepare data for recording: Failed to get disc content. I've tried burning this same project several times and each time I get the same error at the same place.

It seems to go all the through the ''transcoding'' process of the menus and the file itself, but then it fails, and the above error message pops up before any actual burning begins. I've saved the error log generated each time it fails. It's a long file, so I'll include the part that seems important in this post:
########################################################################################
[04:00:43] DVDEngine ERROR
[04:00:43] DVDEngine cause: 3 (invalid_parameter)
[04:00:43] DVDEngine source: _get_PGC_PB_TM
[04:00:43] DVDEngine description: ICellRef refers a cell (VOB_IDN=1, C_IDN=18) which does not exist in
[04:00:43] DVDEngine VTSTT_VOBS#1.
[04:00:43] DVDEngine ########################################################################################

It's an .avi file, and I don't have any trouble viewing it in Windows Media Player, and Nero Vision Express doesn't have any trouble making a preview of the file/menus either.

Before I had purchased Nero, I downloaded the trial version of Ulead Movie Factory and didn't have any trouble burning DVDs using that, so I don't think it's the burner (which is a NEC DVD+-RW ND-3450A.)

I'm on a Dell with Windows XP Media Center Edition, a Pentium processor (3.2, I think), an ATI radeon X300 graphics card, and a 250 GB hard drive (with about 110 GB free).

Anyone have any ideas what is going wrong?

Thanks for any help.

I had this same problem in NeroVision Express 3 (NVE) with the error message:
Unable to prepare data for recording: Failed to get disc content

I got the error several minutes after starting to burn a DVD movie that was based on three AVI files that I had captured from my DV camcorder. After much investigation I determined that the problem was that one of the AVI files was corrupted about halfway through. Apparently NVE3 choked on file (when it got to the corrupted part) and then NVE provided the aforementioned (unhelpful) error message. I suppose that NVE might give this same error message when it encounters any kind of corrupted audio or video file, like MPG, AVI, WMV, MP3, etc.

You can solve the problem by either recapturing the video file (hopefully uncorrupted), or by running a video repair tool on the video file. There are several video fix tools available for free, such as DivFix. There are several such tools listed on videohelp.com website.

Good luck!

Nero is kind of a dodgy program and many folks aren't happy with version 7 (or any version actually). I doubt if you will find the answer, for some it works fine but for others.......

I use version 6, and will stay with it for awhile. It's a shame you didn't take advantage of the free trial first.

Maybe some help here.
