Hi Troops,

I'm new to digital phoyography, Finally got a nice
digital 8 SONY DCR-TRV140. So many features my
head hurts.

I'm looking for decent software that can capture a movie
directly to my DVD burner on the fly. It came with Roxio
software that can convert to VCD, but not DVD.

Space may be an issue. I have about 10 GB free, but its
spread out over partitions. Is there one that uses less
HDD space and records to DVD directly from NTFC ?

Thanks for all advice,

Forget about it--10 gb left on the same drive that you have your applications on is not going to cut it. First of all, you need to convert your trv-140 files to MPEG2 files in order to burn them to DVD. Do you intend to edit this footage, or do you want to just throw it on a DVD in rough form. Give us some more specifics. Begin by getting yourself an extra hard drive to act as your video storage drive. Then capture the footage into an NLE--Sony makes a couple of reasonably priced ones. Then, convert the finished product to MPEG, then burn your DVD. Thats the process.

OK Rex,

Sounds like I need a "devoted" HDD. As to taking the
direct stream and converting it to Mpeg2, I have the
software for that. THAT I can convert to VCD with no
problem.

But what about the best software when the room becomes
available ? Ideas ?

Thanks,

Okay--if you are looking to make DVD's with menu systems etc then there are a bunch of reasonably priced apps that will do that. Check out Sonic MyDVD. If you really want to have a load of flexibility you might consider a dedicated NLE with the ability to create DVD's built in. Premire Pro and Vegas plus DVD Architect are two that I can think of. Both are a bit pricey but you can do some amazing things with them.
