Does it only happen on games, or does it happen on DVD's too? Do you ever get disk read errors when you're trying to play a game, and does the disk drive make loud clicking noises?

Also, do you have a newer slimline console or an older, bigger one?

Consoles are made to eventually become useless after a few years so if you've had it for a while maybe a new one is required my xbox did the exact same thing after 3 years.
Not true..........I am still using my PS2 and it is quite reliable in fact (1st generation PS2 purchased within 6 months of it's initial release)....I have only had to adjust the laser a couple of times, clean the dust out of it every once in a while and avoid dropping / banging it around ........and it is still going strong. Currently playing FF12 on it.

As stated above....a little more detailed info is needed to help you out. Does it cut out when it goes to a cut scene or during actual game play?

That's incorrect, I've had an xbox for a lonnnnggg time now, and it's worked just fine.

It's how you handle them... if you take good care of them, they'll last longer.

That's the exact answer to rebutt the statement.

I have had my PS2 for 5 years now. The only thing I have going on it is that it's slow reading the disc to load.

Thats probably the laser..either the lens needs to be cleaned or it's aim needs to be adjusted. There is an aiming screw in the laser housing that changes the angle it sits at, I have had to adjust mine a couple times now, real easy to do.
