Need help to transfer photos from camera

10 years ago we bought our young daughter a cheap camera to take on a vacation. She took heaps of photos. We found the camera the other day after thinking we had misplaced it, and it contains lots of priceless memories.

When I plug the USB to the computer to view and transfer the files on the computer, I only get one photo showing up, which is seemingly the only photo we saved using the SD memory card. But if I switch on the camera I can scroll hundreds of photos through the view screen.

I think The issue is these photos are stored on the camera's internal memory and not the SD Card and can't be transferred to the PC.

I have had a play around on the camera to see if I can transfer the photos to the SD card but there doesn't seem an option.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Note: I believe the manual for this model is available via this link. I couldn't seem to find any useful advice from it.

sorry not what i asked
the internal memory should show up as a drive on the computer
nothing to do with transferring

if you plug the camera in - ignore anything that appears
open windows file manager

you are looking for a drive

did you follow the instructions on page 19 ?

whats the PC you are using and is it running windows ? if so what version

Thanks for your help Etaf.

Yes I've tried this. When I plug into my PC I can see the DCIM folder but it only has one random photo in it. There are a couple of other folders as well, but they're blank.

According to this there is limited internal memory.

  • Limited internal memory is only for you to take test photo, these photo will be lost when you turn off your camera or remove away the battery. So that insert a SD memory card is normally for use.
[*]Locate the SD memory card slot, insert a SD memory card as above, until you hear a “Click” sound, it indicates your SD card is installed with an icon “SD” appear on the LCD screen
[*]After the SD memory is inserted successful, the photos/videos you have taken will be stored on the SD memory card.
[*]When the camera's memory is full, the LCD screen will display “Memory Full Insert a SD memory card to Transfer and Take More Photos!”
Download photos and videos to your computer
1. Plug the camera into an available USB port and connect to computer, Turn on the camera.
2. Click on the MY COMPUTER Icon on the desktop, a new drive should mount on the
desktop which stores any photos or videos that have been taken.
3. Your memory card will appear as a REMOVABLE STORAGE DEVICE.
4. Click on the REMOVABLE STORAGE DEVICE to view the images and videos. the images and
Videos are stored in the subfolder called DCIM.
5. You can now copy and paste the images to any directory you choose.

Alternatively, you can remove the SD card from the camera and use a USB to SD adapter to view/transfer the photos.

Sorry I have removed the SD card from the camera and put it into computer. The same thing happens (only see one photo)

Was more wondering if there's an internal camera memory card somewhere (e.g. disassemble the camera and take it out). I can't explain otherwise why there are photos on the camera but not on SD card?

the camera needs to be connected to the USB of the computer - with the correct cable
and then the image you sent , we need to see the lefthand side as well, like PeterOz showed

unlikely you can take it apart and read the card - as i suspect its soldered into the main PCB and so without specialised equipment to remove the chip and read the chip , not going to work - and i suspect someone will do it and stupid price
But it should be readable from a PC with a cable connected to the camera

Hi ETAF thanks for your help, refer above for update.

If your KMart computer is anything like an Olympus, if you leave the SSD out and hook the camera up to your computer via a USB cable it will read the internal memory and allow you to download image files if any are present. Turn your computer off, hook up the camera, and then turn the computer back on.

Your manual states that any images in memory are wiped if the camera is turned off or if the battery is removed. This suggests that they are stored in RAM.

Limited internal memory is only for you to take test photo, these photo will be lost when you turn off your camera or remove away the battery.

I actually found the hard copy of the manual when I was looking for the CD software (refer below) which is a different manual to the link I posted. Sorry for sending you on a wild goose chase.

Anyway the manual talks about using the standard method to download the photos via the usb cord which I have been doing without success. But it also talks about using a program called "PhoTags Express" as another method to download the photos. There was a CD presumably provided with the camera with the software on it. I have no idea where the CD is (been looking). I have googled the software it and I don't think it can be downloaded now (the camera is so old). So in short, I don't think I can get the software.

I feel like the only option now is to go to an electronic shop and see if they can access the internal memory somehow, unless anyone has any final ideas. I also might buy a new USB Cord as there is a possibility the cord I have is not the one that came with the camera. Thank you for your help.

P.s. when I view file explorer, it looks like there is over 1.5GB on the D: which would indicate there is more than the 1 photo I can see when check all of the folders in the D: (refer screenshot). So frustrating!

when you click on the D drive
have you opened all the folders and drilled down to see if there is another DCIM folder listed

maybe some more screen shots

Also you can search the usb drive for file types
looking for .jpg files

Some cameras can only store a limited number of files in a DCIM Folder and so you get multiple folders
100DCIM etc
