Just bought a new Toshiba laptop yesterday and am having a hard time using Vista.
It doesn't have "My computer" or "run" or "search" which I am used to with XP.

I tried to play a DVD movie but don't know how to start the movie on the D drive. Gosh I am so confused!!

It has already been giving me problems when I restart - the screen goes blank and no desktop comes up, so I have to manually shut down. I have used "Last known good configuration" once already. Also where do I find "msconfig"?? because I want to disable some programs starting up? This lappie has 3 gbs. memory but it is soooo slow!! Takes forever to get to the desktop

Sorry if I am overwhelming you, but would appreciate a bit of help. I am pretty computer illerate for an old person...lol.

No problem
the best way to speed up vista is disable the side bar
dump nortons if you have it on your machine
leave the machine run...dont shut it off unless required by an update or application.
Just put it in sleep mode or hibernate.
with vista the prefered method to disable startups is through windows defender.
once there select tools..then software explorer

You can also do it with msconfig
Just hit start and type in msconfig...it will show up at the very top
