I have two PC's and a laptop pm my network. One pc is connected to a Linksys BEFW11S4 router. The two pc's are under Win 2000 SP4 and the laptop is under XP. I condigured the router to WPA to secure the network. One computer is connected via Cat 5 cable to the router. The laptop and other pc are wireless. The laptop using XP connect ok using the My Network Places window and entering the passwork I setup on the router. The other pc will not connect. How do I configure it. I have McAfee firewall on each and have configured it to accept any computer on the network. Thanx

control key + C key - to copy
then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Start, Run, CMD to open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

I couldn't send the ipconfig paramenters from the wireless computer because it will not connect. As I said in my original thread the laptop works fine. The paramatersfor the pc that won't connect are as follows.

Then you don't have a wireless connection enabled on that PC. Check in Device Manager for indication that the wireless adapter is "OK." Check in Network Connections that the wireless connection appears there and is enabled.

Does the wireless utility detect any signals?

The adapter is OK, but the local area connection says that the cable is unplugged. the wireless utility does not detect any signals.

Correction the adapter utility is detecting a 43% signal from the router and it is trying to connect. Using the utility I checked the peramaters for the signal. They are as follows.

TX Rate - Auto
SSID - blank
Network Type - Infrastructure
Encryption - Disabled
Authentication Mode - WPA PSK
WPA settings - TRS, and Administrator

Blank SSID? That's certainly unique and I encourage unique names, but why not try a non-blank one?

Standard operating procedure is to disable encryption until you get a successful connection, then enable the encryption. I see that the encryption is disabled, but then I don't understand why the Authentication Mode is WPA-PSK; I'd expect something like "Open."

I think you said one of the other computers is connected wirelessly. What is the Authentication Mode on that one?

I changed a settintg to "access point" and the local area connection connected, but I still cannot connect to the internet, or any drives on any other computer.

Step 2 of trouble shooting will be to try to ping the router. Let's discuss that after step 1--how about an ipconfig /all ?

The PC and router are not communicating. That is shown by the fact that Windows has assigned an APIPA of 169.254.x.y because no Dhcp server was found.

I figure from your previous ipconfig of the working PC that your router's Dhcp server is enabled. Make sure that you are not using MAC address filtering. Disable encryption until you get a successful connection.

By now you probably have some kind of profile for your network saved in the wireless utility. To start fresh, delete it.

Now connect to your network. If successful you will get ipconfig /all results similar to the good one you showed earlier. Then enable encryption again on the router and try the wireless connection again.
