Hi all. I´m new to this forum but I really like this web site from what I´ve seen . I have been using Photostudio 5.5 for a while now and I am always learning better and better to use it. I was hoping that someone could help me with this picture. I want to make the sky look more blue and I´m wondering what is the best way to do it so that it looks like a real blue sky but not a sky that has been painted with plain blue color. Also there is a problem with the trees that fall into the color of the sky because it´s difficult to get the new color in between them if you know what I mean.

You're quite right about trying to separate out the trees from the sky in some sections of the picture. I did some experimenting with the magic wand and "select similar" in my old version of PhotoShop and got this in about 15 minutes. I also ended up copying the top of the mountain into a new layer.

This method ended up punching up all the colours, not sure if its exactly what you want but was pretty easy to do so worth a try.

As cwwozniak said, and you know, it is a tough one with all the trees. The ability/talent/patience to mask the trees is key

Thanks for all the help but to be honest I want to try to do this even better . Maybe it isn´t possible because of all the trees like we said but I want to make the sky way more blue because the colors in the picture are so pretty so it´s a bit anoying that the sky is almost white. I will keep trying and will be hoping for more answers here

You need to extract/separate the sky...

Try the extract tool or a mask

this is another one using a mask... not going to go to the individual pixel level because the imge /file you have posted does not warant it...

Don't take that wrong... the picture is quite good... the file size you have posted it at is not worth spending more than a few minutes on...

If you are hopeing for a quality print in the end I hope you have a much larger file

Wow! Another person who uses Photostudio. I saw in a tech magazine last year a reference to Arcsoft Photo Editing Software. I didn't even know they still were in business.

I've used Photostudio 2000 for about 6 years, and am pretty familiar with it. If v. 5.5 has 'hue and saturation' editing (it's in the 'enhance' dropdown) in it, this is what you might use. This is a monochannel tool, which changes reds, greens, and blues proportionately. Good for beginners (like me ).

Also on the enhance drop-down is 'tone' adjustment, which allows independent red and/or green and/or blue, independently. This one you could spend a few hours manipulating a pic.

Thanks buck. My original is much bigger so I should be able to get a nice printout. I like how you changed the sky but still the top parts of the trees look a bit odd because it´s so hard to edit the sky in between them.

TRS-80 vet, thanks for your ideas. I have already in the pic I posted with my first post increased the saturation a little to get stronger colors. However I need to experiment a little more in changing only the sky.

Below is the updated picture where I have fixed the mountain a little bit by removing the white cloud on top of it.

your welcome, but I said that... did you undertsand my post?...I have not spent more than 2 minutes on any of the images I have posted...to make the tops of the trees look good/printable would require much more time and a much larger file... To make a "good" printable picture you will have to spend a good amount of time

Sorry, I didn´t mean any offence Yes I understood you very well and really appreciate your help. I will try to work further on the image but wouldn´t you agree with me that it would look better if the sky was more blue than in the original?

In PhotoShop I used a cool photo filter to blue the sky and then increased the saturation on another level. I gave the trees a little yellow and red hue on a very low percent. It's a photo that can have many different looks. I've never uploaded a photo to this site. I hope I'm doing it right. If you don't see the pix, then you know . . . . .

Sneezy, I like your try :up: . This is probably the best way, mask the sky and change the saturation of it. Still, what is the best way, you think, to make the sky between the trees look the same. Is it by editing the color of them like you did?

Here's one using the Photoshop Shadow Highlight tool
I brightened the shadows to enhance the tree colors ..
and darkened the highlights to bring out the Blues.

The noise around the trees looks like it's caused by the jpeg artifacting.

If you want to show the same or similar color thru the trees - duplicate the background layer and try selecting the trees best you can. In photoshop I use the magic wand and fine-tune it with the lasso. I create a new layer and deepen the sky area quite a bit more than I want to end up with. At that point I decrease the fill level in that layer to whatever looks good to me. It's a bit labor-intensive. If you can't get a good selection, try adding some highlights here and there as I did to fool the eye. Good Luck.

There's also a background CD called "Clouds & Sunsets", available from wetzelandcompany.com. You can inset the sky of your choice, and if you follow the tutorial available on the site, it's fairly simple.

Most as been said on what to do, it is what you want that counts , this took no more that a minute, it might not fit this picture but it does show what you can do.
