I just reinstalled a new os on my friends computer (windows me). After I formatted the drive and installed it, I remembered about all the drivers.

My friend doesn't have any drivers for his computer, and I don't know how to find which drivers i need. Is there a way to figure this out?

Thanks

You probably will need the drivers for the display adapter, the sound device, the 56K modem, and the network card(if one is installed). You need to make note of the brand name, model name, and model number for each, then go to the vendors' site and download and install them.

In case you don`t know what type of hardware is installed on the comp, there is a system info tool called AIDA 32, it is freeware, and you can find it here http://www.aida32.hu/aida32-download.php download, and run it, and it will tell you what hardware is installed on your comp so you will be able to find the correct drivers when you look for them. If you are not able to go online with that comp to download aida, it can be downloaded to any comp with a burner, and aida can be burned to a cd so it can be used on a comp without the ability to go online. If by chance you don`t have a burner, it could be done on floppies with a program called file splitter which would split aida into several pieces and put on floppies(it would take several), and then transferred to the problem comp. Hang in there, the process can be trying. Good luck.

In addition to above question.I've often read on this forum about being happy that drivers had been saved/copied or what have you. What does this involve and why. I know drivers are programs for devices etc but are they not included in your OS and if you do a reinstall you get them back or are they referring to updated ones? Did I just answer my own question?

Where do you find all your drivers and how do you save them,also how do you get them updated?

After reading the above I am really sorry for such but I'm going to leave it alone as I will only make it worse if I try to redo it! Should I start a new thread? Please don't make me! This day isn't starting out too good as it is!
Thanks anyway!

Go on line and download a nifty little program (freebie) called "Windrvexp"...run it and it will collect all of your drivers (Win and all peripheries) and you can burn them all to one CD!

Lifesaver!

Was anybody able to get this program without paying for it at $39.00 ? I couldn't and didn't buy it. Not sure what went on there?

I've had it a while...and didn't pay for it. I think if you check my profile, that'll answer an innuendo you just fired there, Bro!

Oops! Sorry meant to say "not sure what went on "there" The site bounced me all around and I finally gave up. Post was not to imply anything against you! Have you been back to that site lately? Try it and let me know where I went wrong and I'll give it another try. Thanks {I changed the "here to there" in my previous post}
