Apart from it making Google and Bill Gates rich this is what it's doing.

- Cyber addiction.
- Heaven for weird old men.
- Makes many webmasters rich.
- Gives teens the wrong ideas about how to get friends.

Here's a video I though hit the nail on the head.

rant on..

I would not say so. They are the fundamental reasons. I know some teens who think they are cooler if they have more friends on Myspace.

If it's civilized debate, what meaning does your reply serve to debating this?

Whats to Rant!

Kids nowadays choose to use Cyberspace, Video games, Online Resumes, and never take the initiative to spend actual time meeting people who could be their actual friends. Other than school there is little interaction beyond their little Cyber Worlds.
The blame falls into several categories for this.
1) The parents
2) Over availability of these modes of communication
3) Widely accepted by their peers
4) The Kids themselves usually being lazy and\or fearing rejection
5) The gimme society since I deserve it and parents doing so. They do not want to hurt their little babies self esteem.

Anytime groups of kids thinking they have anonymity post the personal information they do, unrestricted, it will draw unintended consequences such as pedophiles, stalkers, and the like.
Is it addicting? Sure it is since it creates an image of coolness that really may not be their true personality but a wannbe style without immediate consequence.

Now the final question..........
Is that yours or a friends YouTube video about MySpace?

Not mine or a friends. But who ever made it is 100% genius.
yowsers...you got that right

brings up an interesting perspective, too

the media has made a lot about the dangers of myspace...as have parents...and there's no denying that it's got some dangers to it.....

but his vid, so obviously a spoof of the good and the bad, is actually a whole lot closer to reality, imo....for the kids...at least the ones i know.

Bah, I think MySpace is stupid. But it's not just MySpace that's sucking kids' brains out, it's a lot of other stuff on the Internet. I spend way too much on the Internet, and I don't have a MySpace account.

For years we've heard the same things--television was bad for kids, video games, now Myspace--its all irrelevant. My daughters have MySpace accounts--spend a good deal of time on it--they have a lot of friends they hang out with--often together on Myspace--they are A+ students.

How is being out of the house at the mall or anywhere for that matter any safer or better? Both of them have developed such fast typing skills from being on the computer that I think that will serve them much better in college and after than hanging out somewhere else.

The only negative is if it causes children to have less exercise--but again--the kids that don't get exercise are not going to get it doing something else.

Much ado about nothing.
