My wife got on the computer to read her email, for the first time in several months, and appears to have infected it with something. I've tried running the virus scan from the Symantec web site but it takes forever and never does complete. Can you see anything in this log? Thanks ...weeG

Reboot into normal mode

Now download Spybot - Search & Destroy (if you haven't got the program installed already)

After installing, first press Online, and search for, put a check mark at, and install all updates.

Next, close all Internet Explorer windows, hit 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove/fix all it finds that are in RED

Reboot

Last, run HJT again and post your log again to see if anything was missed.

Looks better. Here are a few other things that are not needed in your startups.

You don't need Spybot to run every time you start up, you can run it manually as needed.

Using HJT to fix an item ONLY removes it from your startups, it does not remove the program and the program may still be run any time it's needed.

Cleaning those items let me run the virus scan...came up with a Trojan.ByteVerify which has been removed.

I use all the other tasks noted, with the exception of backweb which I shall delete.

For what it's worth, I'm not picking on my wife here. I only mentioned her once up front and that was to offset the question, "Do you remember what you were doing when the problem started?". I was helping my daughter with her homework. As George Thorogood says "On no Lord, it wasn't me"
