My stupid computer...or daughter!

1132 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  kath100
Ok since my daughter came home, my computer is acting weird.
I have scanned for viruses and it is clean. BUT everytime I go to open up my browser, it opens up to some weird page. I have changed my startup page in internet options about 20 times, but it still keeps resetting to this website.
How do I get this to stop?
Thanks....Madonna

After you run Spybot (be sure to update it first), Reboot your computer and run Adaware 6.

Download AdAware. Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files.

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------ON=GREEN

From main window :Click Start then Activate in-depth scan (recommended)

Click Use custom scanning options then click Customize and have these options selected: Under Drives and Folders put a check by Scan within archives and below that under Memory and Registry put a check by all the options there.

Now click on the Tweak button in that same window. Under Scanning Engine select Unload recognized processes during scanning and under Cleaning Engine select Let windows remove files in use at next reboot

Click Proceed to save your settings.

Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose Select All from the drop down menu and click Next)

Reboot your computer.

Now run HiJackThis. The resultant log will tell us everything we need to know in order to clean up anything left.

Follow these instructions.

First, create a folder in C:\Program Files and label it HiJackThis. This is where you will download This executable file. This is also the folder where your HJT backups will be stored.

Close all windows, including this and any other browser windows. Launch HJT and click the Scan button. When the scan is finished, the Scan button will have changed to Save Log. Click that and save the log to your HJT folder. DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING YET. Most of the listed items are harmless or even essential. Wait for recommendations from someone trained in HJT log file interpretation.

Now open the saved log file... In the toolbar at the top of the window under Edit, select Select All. Copy (Ctrl+C) the text and paste (Ctrl+V) it into a reply in this thread.
