Welcome to TSG, astaria1. I assume you've shut down and rebooted a couple of times. How about giving the monitor a firm whack? Are you seeing any text display?
Check to see that the cable connector is inserted firmly, that is the most likely cause.
But to test whether it might be the Video drivers reboot in Safe Mode and see if the problem persists. To start in Safe Mode, hold the ctrl key down immediately when rebooting begins. A startup menu should appear. Select Safe Mode from that.
You can also try this, from the startup menu, select the "command prompt" option. At the c:\> prompt, enter:
scanreg /restore
use your arrow keys to select a started registry prior to the problem from one of the first 4 dislplayed. This may fix a video driver problem, but not the physical monitor itself, if that is the cause.
