Hi all
Please nobody laugh at me as I don't know a huge amount about tablets/computers but am pretty sure am being hacked...I have a samsung galaxy s5e.The only thing am not sure of is whether they are just hacking my google accounts(Youtube and Google itself)or my actual tablet. My guess is it's my tablet but how do I know the difference?I think if it was just my accounts I would have got security alerts off google and I haven't.They have also brought back very old search history on my browser after I have cleared it and I think to do that you would need to be hacking the actual device?am not sure. Please could somebody tell me how do tell whether os my accounts or tablet being hacked?I suffer from anxiety so this whole thing is worrying me:(Am sure you guys must get a lot of these type of questions but would really appreciate your help

I have fount that my Google account remembers what I do. For example, if I use the Google search on my cell phone it remembers what I had been doing on my laptop. That is normal. You can delete history if you want but I don't worry about it.

Hello @Undermyduvet!

As mentioned, the good (and potentially bad) thing about Google Accounts is that anytime you sign into a browser or device (i.e. android phone, Chromebook, Google Chrome), your Google Account will remember your history, passwords, and bookmarks, to name a few. So if you sign into another device, then those items will follow you. It may be that there is a device that you were signed into is populating the old information again.

You can go to https://myaccount.google.com/security and then click on My Devices to see what devices has recently been used. If you do not recognize them, then you can tell Google to sign the device out, as well as don't recognize the device. If you do not have 2 factor authentication, then I will strongly advise to turn that on.

When it comes with Android devices in general, we typically can only help with Windows machines. If there is a strong case for a potential virus issue, then I would recommend a factory reset of the device, but ensure that you save your media (video/pictures) first, as well as any other apps that may require a backup of data before wiping. However, I do not believe this is the case here that warrants a wipe. I do believe Mr. Ed is on the right track that it sounds like you have signed into another device and that is syncing the old information.

Hi

Sorry I couldn't reply sooner but am not able to get online everyday.
I maybe haven't given the full picture as my first post was really just an intro type message.

I had doubts a month or two ago about whether I was being hacked but now am almost certain..am just less certain about whether it is my device or accounts.I only use my Samsung TV and tablet device wise and when I go on my Samsung playlists they are moving up when I haven't looked at them and also am getting YT searches on my tablet that aren't mine. When I signed into my Wayfair account(furniture store...not very exciting)a postal address came up when I was looking at a certain item that I didn't recognise. In reply to what was said about my search history..this was on my tablet and I don't use anything else other than my TV and was from a year or two back. When it happend was just after i'd deleted some bookmarks that I didn't need anymore like whoever it was curious about what i'd deleted.
If it helps give any context a few months before the hacking started I got some Emails which I opened by mistake when I was trying to delete them..Was no link in them but I got a whole load of them and they were very strange...they had my full name in the subject line but the body of the mail didn't make any sense. Can Emails do any damage if there's no link?was no attachment either..It was really bizarre

I have tried checking if there's any other devices using my Google in the past but nothing has really showed up.If it's my actual tablet being hacked that might not work though?am not sure.

When I did a search before posting on here I did see the factory reset thing but bit reluctant to do that as you have to start again with everything and TBH I don't know how to back things up.D'oh.Having a girl moment there.Would a virus checker app not be enough by itself to get rid of hacking problem? It doesn't sound like it would be from what you said..I don't think I have a virus and I haven't had anything stolen(just my dignity..lol)but I think my hacker person is just plain curious.

Have you changed all the passwords? If you do make sure they are difficult. Use different passwords for different accounts. If you are afraid of getting hacked again use 2-facter authentication.

BTW, if you have a difficult time remembering passwords a password manager would help.

Yeah,I changed my Google account password but it didn't make any difference which is another reason I think is a strong possibility my tablet itself is being hacked.I think they even changed my Google passwords back to the old password after a while to toy with me...I can't be sure though.

The whole thing has left me feeling pretty depressed as I have a lot going on in my life.

I strongly recommend that you follow the below advice in your situation.
1. Ensure you are logged out of all accounts on your Samsung tablet.
2. Make sure all of your passwords are strong and complex.
3. Contact Samsung customer service for tablets regarding your tablet's potential security breach for further direction.

At the same time all of your accounts on other devices should be signed out of.
