I have a HP dv1000 laptop. I was having problems with the power cord, and the day before I was going to take it in for service, it just suddenly would not proceed past one of the DOS screens... so I took it in for service (luckily I had a protection plan), thinking there was a command I didn't know how to do or something, and when I got it back they told me my hard drive died and had replaced it with a new one. Well I was thankful to have the problem fixed but I had data I didn't have time to back up! If I would have known and had a chance beforehand, I would have backed up my data...

So I'm on this forum because I want to find out if there's a way for me to go BACK to my old hard drive and retrieve the data and programs I NEED... I did purchase an external hard drive to transfer everything to. HELP IS NEEDED! Thanks in advance.

Have you installed the old drive in the enclosure?
Does diskmanagement "see" the drive?
We need to know what you have tried

I haven't done anything yet... I know some software but I'm a little bit of a novice when it comes to hardware, so I was nervous about doing anything before talking to you guys.
