I use Yahoo.Com as my home page - when I log into internet explorer, I find that my home page has been changed to coolbiz.com. I try to set Yahoo.com as my homepage; I try to reset internet defaults, but every time I log on I find myself back on this coolbiz.com. Help!

I am using XP

Hi JoJO

Welcome to TSG! :)

Please do this. Click here to download Hijack This. Click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.

*Note: When you download Hijack This Do Not download it to a temp folder or to the desktop. Create a permanent folder somewhere like in My Documents and name it Hijack This and put it in that folder.

You have several things here ... let's try to do this clean-up the easiest way possible ... ;)

First ... go here for the free Ad-Aware 6 Personal Build 181: http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Launch the program ... on the start-up screen, you will need to first run the Webupdate Feature (globe at the top), or click "check for updates" to get the Reference File up to date.

Please use the Custom Scan with Memory and Both registry scans ON. Also.... make sure that you activate IN-DEPTH scanning before you proceed.

Then see that you have these options checked:
Under Ad-aware 6 Settings, Scanning, Memory & Registry:
"Scan My Hosts File" ...

Under Ad-Aware 6 Settings, Tweaks, Scanning Engine:
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under Ad-Aware 6 Settings, Tweaks, Cleaning Engine:
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Next ...

Run Ad-Aware 6.
Mark the objects you wish to eliminate for removal. There are many options available with a right-click.
Make a Quarantine only if you do not have the Auto-Quarantine option ON.
Then choose "Next" to remove the chosen objects.
Finally ... Reboot

Please read http://forums.techguy.org/t164245/s.html for further instructions, settings , etc.

After restarting your computer, post a fresh HJT log.

Boy, there was a lot of junk hiding on my computer - can you please look at this and tell me what to delete.

I am most appreciative.

First please do this:

Navigate to the C:\Windows\system32 folderservices folder and locate the services folder. Right click it and choose "Send to compressed (zipped) folder". The zipped folder will appear there in the services folder. Attach a copy of that zipped folder and send it to me here. Please include a link to this thread so I'll remember where they came from.

This may be a hidden folder so click on My Computer. Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and "Hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Now run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"
