Its a brilliant spec computer, but it becomes so annoying sometimes... When I load it for the first time that day, it firstly takes a century to start up, then when I try to move the mouse it moved very jagged, it will stop then start again etc. And programs take forever to load. Then I reset the computer and everything works great, and I can keep on resetting it for the rest of the day and it will be fine, but the next day it will do the same. Also, sometimes when the computer is running normally all of a sudden the screen will go black and I will have to restart, loosing all of my work from the last save point (this has only started haoppening recently, and ive got a feeling its because I updated my Videos cards driver to the latest version, my video card is an ATI Hercules Radeon 3D Prophet 9700.

Pkease help, this is annoying the hell out of me!

First thing I would try is a virus scan, then run your spyware removal programme. If everything is ok and your running xp try a system restore to an time when you new your pc was running ok.

All ready done virus scan, used adaware, defragged etc. I want to use system restore as a last resort

How about checking your video card settings, go to start>run>then type "dxdiag" without the quotes, then go to the display tab and run the tests.

Also if you can reduce the number of programmes you have starting up when you boot the pc. Strart>run>then type msconfig>go to the startup tag and uncheck all unecessary programmes, I only have 2 items active, antivirus and firewall.

It might be a good idea to run spybot. Adaware doesn't always catch all of the spyware that may be on your pc. You can donwload sybot from the following location:

Ive found that when my computer is slow, System Idle Process is using up 95-100% of my cpu, I think that is the problem... But what is causing my system idle process to go so high? I know that you may say this is because it has 95-100% resources free, but this doesnt account for the overall cpu usage of 100% when all the other processes added up dont come close to that value
