I am a new user and its nice to meet everyone. I have a Gateway computer. My CD-ROM drive is not listed under my drivers list in my control panel area and i don't know why???? My CD-ROM drive does not boot up at all when up when I put a CD in the drive. If anyone can help me fix this problem that would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance to everyone for their help.:)

My problem is similar to the one described by Animallover. Suddenly, my system refuses access to both my CD-ROM and CD-RW drives. Error message says "[Drive] not accessible. Incorrect function." I hadn't used either drive in a few weeks. I discovered the problem immediately after using "System Mechanic" to delete a bunch of unneeded temporary files, but I have no idea whether doing that had any relation to the problem with the CD drives. I have tried various CDs; neither drive will read any of them. I went through the Windows hardware trouble-shooting process; that didn't help. Device Manager says the drives are working. One clue is that during boot-up, the system says it detects "KD-ROM (48X'AKU), but my CD-ROM drive [still listed this way despite the problem] is E-ILE((CL-ZOM<0X/IK]. System detects the correct CD-RW drive. Also, even though the E-ILE drive has been in the machine since the beginning, Windows hardware compatibility check cannot find it. Any ideas?
Disregard my previous message. Loose cable was the problem.
