I remember on my previous PC (Win98) there was a setting where you could mute the so called "destination" microphone so that while you were using the mike for recording or chatting purposes you wouldn't get any feedback and having to adjust your speakers.

I don't see anything here in Win 7 (I'm probably missing it...LOL) of a similar nature. When I mute my mike, it is even muted for whatever I wanna do with the mike as well.

Is there any such setting(s) here in Win7 that will do the same thing (or very similar)?

Thanks in advance

Closest thing I know of is start/control panel/sound.
Click the recording tab.
Click the microphone,then click properties.
Click the listen tab.
If listen to this device is selected, deselect it and click
apply/ok.
That keeps the mic from playing back through the speakers
so it won't cause feedback.
