multimedia buttons on keyboard not working

I am running win98 se on my 8750c hp pavilion. My multimedia buttons at the top of my keyboard dont seem to be working. None of the buttons respond, including the volume button. I went into control panel and keyboard to activate them, but it gave me the error message "ERROR: couldn't find keyboard manager." I downloaded the latest driver and still no response. any ideas?

It sounds like a driver's become corrupted. Go to device manager and see if there's a conflict (yellow ?) and try reinstalling keyboard driver.

Use the Applications Recovery disk to reinstall the multimedia keyboard. I have an 8760C and it is the third disk. See if that helps.
