Sunday I spent most of the day here cleaning up my stuff (with Ad-Aware, Spybot, Hi-Jack This etc. and also did some changing of privacy settings suggested at somebody's Toolbox, I think Steve, which I have changed back due to the constant prompts during surfing) anyway now, my MSN messenger doesn't start on start up, which I like, and it is checked in MSN config. I tried downloading it again and I got a message UNKNOWN/Installer/Assemblies/Global Error 1603. Help, I absolutely love my MSN Chat and and really, really dislike yahoo and the others.
Anybody got any ideas? I have to go to work now, but will check back after 5pm for any help.
Thanks

This seems to be a common problem, firstly download the latest Messenger from http://messenger.msn.com/ and ensure that your windows updates are current, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/.

1. Find C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS
2. Rename the folder "InstallTemp" to "InstallTemp2".
3. Then Rename the file "x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.Dxmrtp_6595b64144ccf1df_5.2.0.4868_x-ww_212f7d9e" to "x86_Microsoft.Windows.Networking.Dxmrtp_6595b64144ccf1df_5.2.0.4868_x-ww_212f7d9e2".
4.Or simply take the folder and the file and add a 2, that way it will replace with a new one.
5. Install away!

Another Possible Fix for 1603

1. Click on Start -> Find -> Files or Folders
2. Search for sfc.dll. It should be under c:\windows\system32\.
3. Rename sfc.dll to sfc.dll.x [x could be any character(s)]
4. You should be able to do the installs now.
5. After you have installed the software, change sfc.dll.x back to
sfc.dll.
6. Done!

Tried Both things and still got same message, it happens after I download file. Then it asks if you want to remove or repair file, I pick repair , is this where I am going wrong? I had 4 folders named x86etc etc, and named one, with the 2, should I have deleted the others? I am actually thinking of saving my music files to data disk, my poetry, whatever else I want to keep, and just doing a complete overhaul using recovery disk.. I think I have all my disks for all the software I've added since I got the computer (of course I will check first.) What does anyone think of this? I have had many other problems: No sound (not sure if this is driver probs, or sound card gone bad) None of my chats are working properly, getting error messages on startup dealing with memory.,etc. Or should I ask this on another thread???

I am ready to drop-kick this beeatch! Don't have the money for a new one. :(
