Hi,

Hopefully Dreamboat (or another Office expert) will be able to help with this one.

I have a few machines that, for no obvious reason, seem to freeze for about 15-30 seconds after opening a Word file, Excel file or Outlook.

It doesn't matter if you're opening a new document, or an existing document/worksheet.

I have tried doing a full removal and re-installation of all 3 programs.

I have also tried deleting normal.dot and letting it be re-created.

Someone told me that there is a registry key that has to be deleted and will be re-created by re-installing MS Office, but they weren't sure where it was.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Holy crap that was fast Dreamboat!

Uh, they all worked fine on all of the machines, and then showed up at different times.

The issues *might* be related to installing Windows updates, but I'm not sure which ones (a different Technician installed them).

Other than that, there isn't anything that all three have in common. They just sort of started freezing a couple of weeks ago.

Running Office 2000, on Windows 2000 machines (SP4).

Not very Techie. So I don't think they'd be messing around (though it's always a possibility).

Also, just thought I'd say that our anti-virus software does not have an Office plug-in.

Ok.
A few things.
Make sure the PCs hard drives are clean:
www.theofficeexperts.com/cleanyourpc.htm
In particular, that the temp folders are cleaned up. On Win2000, there's folders you can't delete, but it won't let you delete them anyway. Delete all the rest of the stuff in the temp folder.

If the proggies still don't run, do the troubleshooting on the Word and Excel pages of www.theofficeexperts.com

If other programs are doing it, then you might just want to attempt to repair Office from the control panel.

I'll be around for any questions.
