I have win 95 pentium(r) 233 and in my bootlog it says that
MRCI.VXD FAILED TO LOAD...
Now, I have a mrci2.vxd and it loads just fine.
I don't even have this file mrci.vxd on my system anywhere...
What is this file and what program is calling for it to load?
I was just going to replace it but can't find it anywhere.
Please Respond....

Alternatively, I found this from here:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=M...zf1BOM#[email protected]
) Locate the Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> System ->
CurrentControlSet -> Services -> VxD.

2) If you are sure that you do not require disk compression software (this
file is not required by Windows 95), you can remove the MRCI key.

If the problem continues, try searching the registry for any other instances
of the word "MRCI".

Be very careful in the 95 registry. It is hard to restore if you make a mistake.
Here's a safeguard. Go to start>run and type

regedit /e reg.reg

this will place a copy of the registry on the desktop named reg.reg
Do this before you go in and delete anything. IF you have a problem or delete the wrong entry, double click on reg.reg to put everything back as it was before you started.

ok...its just that on one of my computers it calls for it and on the other it doesn't.....they both run win95....the one that calls for it can't find the file...it boots ok but maybe a little slow...not sure how important this file is...you say something about disk compression ....what is that and how would I know if I needed it?.....I must not need the file on my one computer.....I can't even find it in the cab files on my win95 disk...

Disk compression is something which is very dangerous. The disk is compressed to hold more information, like a Winzip file. When disks were small and expensive, it was done more frequently. However, you do not need it. That file is not needed. It is being called for. Look in your config.sys to see if it is being called for in there or if it is being called for in the registry. If it is, eliminate the call and you wil eliminate the problem.

Its not in my config.sys file but I did find it in the registry...deleted it and its still calling for it....whatever???
It doesn't seem to be causing any problems so I guess I'll just leave it...I just wanted to get it out because it was failing to load...I'm just curious what's calling for it...any more ideas?
