Hi Filecutter,welcome to TSG.Lets have a look at your startup programs.Go to Start>Run>type in msinfo32>click ok.Click on the +sign next to software environment>click on startup programs>click edit>select all>click edit>copy,and paste the page back here.
Mpeg Freezing
After downloading an MPEG movie and bring up ANY player (Real or MS) my PC freezes. I cannot unlock it unless I reboot. When I save the movie, and then load it from the player it works fine. I very often also have freezing when surfing to a site with motion. I have tried the most logial solutions ie: deleating the players and reloading but to no avail. I have just realtime loaded now and MS Player totally void of my system. Running Windows 98.

Hi Filecutter,you have a few that can be disabled at startup,and newupd has been the cause of some computers freezing up.Go to Start>Run>type in Msconfig>click ok.Click on the startup tab.Uncheck the following programs.
LoadQM
Newsupd
System works
Click apply then Ok.Reboot.

Filecutter,since this newupd is spyware,you might want to download this free program called Ad-Aware5.6.This program will scan your computer and check for spyware componnets and remove them.You can get it here

After you d/l Ad-aware,go back and download the lastest signature file,unpack it to the lavasoft folder.
