Mouse problem

I have a 6 year old Gateway computer that is still in great shape for the needs I have. BUT I am having a problem with the mouse, I think. The cursor keeps jerking and jumping about, off and on will not let me access a site, etc. Do I need a new mouse or could this be something more serious?

If it is a wheel mouse, try cleaning out the packed dust on the spinning wheel(s) inside the mouse. (Not the trackball)

If the problem's still there, try another mouse before you decide to replace it with a new one.

you can clean them but get a new optical mouse ,they are under $20..
