Mouse fails to respond. Attached working mouse of same model and it too fails to move the cursor. Computer is running 98SE and has a restore program called Gateway GoBack, but when I boot the program I cannot select proper buttons to proceed.

How can I restore my mouse (cursor) functions without being able to move the cursor?

So the mouse doesn't work when you boot to the GoBack program?
Is this a USB mouse?
Have you tried a PS/2 mouse?
If it's a USB mouse, ther may be a BIOS option you need to set, often listed as Enable Legacy USB support (Y/N) or similar.

You can always use the TAB key to move between the buttons, then press Enter to select the one that is selected (will be outlined with a faint box)
To check or uncheck boxes, press the spacebar when the option is selected.

Mouse continues to freeze. Using Gateway GoBack (like Windows System Restore), the mouse will work for several days and the problem returns. Suggestions for repair would be most appreciated.
