More K-Lite Murders Ocurring!

1314 Views 11 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Topkat
I've got k-lite k++, 2.4.2...running Win98 on a bloody fast machine. All worked fine and dandy until a couple weeks ago...

Now, whenever I run kazaa, *it slows to a bloody slow creep*. Not the whole computer, just kazaa. All other programs work fine, system resources are at normal...just kazaa dies. When it's working right, I get normal d/l speeds, but it'll jump between working and freezing...emphasis on the freezing part.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've tried closing all other programs and windows. I've got plenty of disk space and RAM, or at least I darn well should. I've scan-disked, virus checked, and defragged until I was seeing blue...and almost hoping for the BSOD.

If I didn't like k-lite so darn much, I'd switch to another p2p program...though I've been considering doing so just to spite k-lite. ...any recommendations? I liked WinMX when I had it, but the version I had didn't search for software (or maybe I was just having a blonde moment and didn't look hard enough) and Shareaza...just...kinda...doesn't have as wide a variety of files as I'm used to (I look for rare things a lot, but again, maybe another blonde moment prevented me from finding things...?).

Helllllllllllp!

Hi there,I have no cure but your not alone in this mine does the same but its only since I upgraded to this version of Kazaalite,I was thinking of going back to the previous version to see if its just this one thats at fault somewhere....I will let you know what happens
I'm sorry to disappoint you but I still had an older version of Kazaa lite that I installed instead of 2.4.2 and it's the same thing.

The problem comes probably from the RIAA. Less people share files because they're afraid. The downloads are therefore a lot slower these days. If we encourage them, they're going to succeed.

Unless we ignore those threats, the sharing business will never be like it was.
About 7 months ago I tried the higher versions of kazaa lite for about 5 minutes before switching back to 1.7 or whichever it is. The ~2+ ones have horrible problems w/ speed.

No doubt though, numbers are dropping. Sharing is now an unnessecary risk ones future.

edit: gramma'
the speed is fine for me, however it disconnects quite a lot :(:(:(
Well, as I said, I get normal downloading speeds - that's not the problem. It doesn't even disconnect a whole lot, though it used to. I actually switched to 2.4.2 because the version I HAD been using was acting up really badly, and it's a little bit better, though not by much.

My problem is that Kazaa freezes, with no discernable reason why.
Have you tried one of the more archaic versions, pre-2?
If that fails I would just uninstall and rip through the registry to see if anything is left behind and remove it if found. Make sure you "Registry>Export Registry File" before deleting anything so you can easily recover from any errors.

I'm not well versed in reading these logs but posting the info the program Hijackthis! ( http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ ) provides could help others evalute your situation.
I'm not sure what version I had pre 2.4.2...I'll check that out. In the mean time, here's the Hijackthis! log:

"O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TimeSink Ad Client] C:\Program Files\TimeSink\AdGateway\TSADBOT.EXE" is an entry to run some ad-ware at startup. However I cannot find it in your running processes. Have you dealt w/ it before? If not http://beam.to/spybotsd .

Have you checked Kazaa's performance w/ your Antivirus disabled? It should be alright to disable it briefly aslong as you are behind a firewall and don't run any executables. I didn't see any firewalls in the log but I might of missed em. Anyway, http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp offers a great one.
You rock, muchly. Thanks a bunch...and my firewall is included in the pc-cillin software.

Thanks again :)
It's also good practice to use more than one scan. Some miss things that others catch. Try online scans, here's some:
