Hi!

My son is running an XP with the color settings at Highest color 32 bit with 800 X 600--but the monitor has black strips on both sides with the two arrows on width set at 100%. I can't get it to spread the inch and a half on both sides.

I thought it was settings, but it might be the monitor going. Maybe not.
When I reset the monitor I have to readjust the hight because the task bar is a good bit below the horizon, and then the black strips on 2 inches on both sides.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a monitor starting to fail. Highvoltage drop in the CRT will cause the picture to draw in. At any rate, unplug the monitor from the video card and carefully inspect the plug for bent pins. Also, if possible try another monitor to eliminate your video card.

Thank you, Em! He thought it was failing. He said the picture is starting to jiggle--just like the last monitor when it started to go out.

Thanks again, and we'll check the card with another monitor.

No problem. You should also be aware that magnetic items to close to the monitor will cause some of the same symptoms. Like a big speaker (its magnet). :D

Thanks again! I just moved my speakers a little further away from the monitor. We put in another monitor and had to reset it, and it works fine. So it wasn't the card. It was the monitor. Guess those things happen. Thanks!
