Monitor image incorrectly scaled

I have a Hewlett Packard Model W2072a monitor for the above system. Its image has recently become incorrectly scaled or proportioned for 1600 x 900 resolution. The dimensions of the framed screen are 9.75"x17.5", a ratio of 1.78::1, the same as 1600 x 900 resolution. The dimensions of the image fill a field of 9.75"x17.0", a ratio of 1.75::1. This leaves a dark border on the right of the image of a bit less than 0.5".

I have tried to adjust the image using the automatic adjust of the the W2072a and also using the horizontal size adjustment. Neither method is successful. I have updated the driver for the monitor. No difference. I recently had to recover my system using a system image backup. I believe the recovery, though otherwise successful began the problem. Would anyone have a suggestion that might fix the scaling?

Additional info: When I try to do the optional Windows update for the Realtek graphics, it fails. The troubleshooter does not find the problem.

Today, Monday, I went to the HP website for assistance. HP would not assist me without charge, because my warranty expired in 2014. If my taxes and yours had not been used to pay for the research that created computers, there would be no HP! We receive no royalties on our tax investment from HP, Microsoft, or other corporations who obtained the research for free!
