Hey Y'all........I checked this problem out in HelpOnTheNet archives but didn't find a solution.........MMMMMhhhhhh?????? Is it possible that the fan in the cpu may not be cooling well enough and causing this problem?

I don't want to sound dumb but I had a similar problem a while back with my Viao monitor (the screen was turning everything the color green) and the Sony people told me that the fan might not be working correctly and may be causing the problem. As it turned out that wasn't the problem and I had to get an new monitor. So, I'm just curious.......(it probably is my monitor going bad. As info it's a Compaq Presario MV700).

Thanks,
Elaine

I highly doubt the CPU is to blame, especially if its a P4. They will just slow down when they get too hot, they don't make your screen go weird colors. Have you overclocked your video card? If so, clock it back down to factory settings, then use an artifact tester to slowly clock it back up to a stable level.

Kt.. ROFL .... got to love "outsource" tech support... LMAO.. this is most funniest thing i ever heard....lol
Anyways even it's too late now, the problem with the Sony monitor was either the tube or the cable.
When it comes to the Compaq .. IMHO it's dying. But just to be on the safe side ( since there is a slight chance that the video card might do that ) , try a different puter on the monitor . If it's the same problem , well sorry , need monitor is need it.

Active95 .....just the response I expected from asking a stupid question (I couldn't figure out why a hot CPU would affect the monitor either but I'm not to savvy). Phatmatrat...how do I clock the video card? I admit I let little ones on here (in the past) and came in to find a blue square in the middle of the screen with all kinds of Icon type stuff in a circular pattern. Maybe they overclocked something? And what is an artifice tester? (Now I'm sure Active95 is REALLY rolling on the floor laughing out loud and maybe you to......(lol, it's all in fun). Thank you both, Elaine (After I try Phat's idea, I'll lug another monitor in here.)

I'm back (tho no one else is).....I found out that if I "smack" my monitor open-handed, it "brightens up" before it fades out again. I haven't timed it yet to see how long it stays bright. So, my ? is this, is it a goner and should I start looking for another one? Thank You, Elaine

Heh, remind me not to go on the fritz around you:). If the connections are all tight to the monitor, I'd say ya, it's a good idea to replace it. I was gonna suggest if you had a friend with a monitor they could let ya hook up to your system, you could rule out a few things, but since your monitor responds that way to the smack, if it's not a lose connection, then your best option is to replace it.

LOL.......I don't think I'll be "smacking" someone named DEATHBLOW around. I will check my connections (I do "jiggle" the monitor once in a while so maybe I've loosened something back there. Take care Deathblow and thanks for the response (As info I'm only 5'2" 100lb soaking wet so I didn't do any permanent damage).
