Hi,

recently for the past few weeks (about 2) my screen has been "morphing" its size. It get's so bad that I can't even see the bar on the bottom of the desktop (with the "start" button) as well as the title bar on full screen windows. It's odd though, because last night I tried changing my theme from Classic to Windows XP hoping to fix this, but it didn't. So I kept it at Windows XP though, and I changed the Screen Refresh Rate to 70 Hertz. That fixed it temporarily, then this morning, I turn on my monitor and the screen is morphing again, and it gets me dizzy sometimes:( Then, I turned the monitor off, and on, and now its fine. If/When(most likely when) it starts up again, I will take a screenshot and post it here.

I appreciate any help

PS, I have Windows XP and a Compaq FS740 Monitor. Both were purchased together about 5 years, give or take one or two, ago.

To be honest, it sounds like a hardware rather then software problem. A screenshot wont really help if this is the case as the screenshot will only show what the graphics card is producing, not what the monitor is showing.

Try using another monitor to test, 5 years is a long time for any PC part to be working perfectly. If when using a different monitor you get no problems then the problem is with the monitor. No point trying to fix the monitor you will have to get a replacement.

If a second monitor produces the same problem then please post on here again.

Hope this helps

Thank you bedderz.

You're probably right, unfortunately I don't have another monitor to try and test it with. But I'm fine with it as long as I know it's nothing thats probably fixable. I've been thinking about getting a new computer anyways, along with a new monitor obviously:)

Thanks for the honest & quick reply, I appreciate it.

You could try picking up an old monitor at a second hand store just to check it out then give it back when you are done. People are just throwing their old monitors away. You could pick one up just for a test. Some things on monitors are fixable so I wouldn't throw out the one you have right now just yet.

Yea I'm not going to throw it away yet, most likely when I get a new computer. About the secondary store, I don't think there are any around my area really... A thrift shop but that's for clothes. I can always just ask some people if they're throwing any away, or the school I go to. But I can live with it for now, I really just do a lot of music stuff, AIM, and browse the internet with this now, I used to do a lot more though. It's been good.

naw, it was fine, but like bedderz said, 5 years is a lot for it, its not a terrible monitor, just not the best

but usually i can't see the task bar on the desktop or title bar on windows open, which sucks, and also, like bedderz said, i tried taking a screenshot, and it showed a fine display, like he said it would:eek:

thanks for the help though guys
