A monitor normally goes into standby because it isn't connected with a computer. Assuming that this "sleep mode" is the same as standby, it should be that it isn't properly connected.
So make sure that all cables are correctly secured, and if the monitor still won't work properly, call the manufacturer. Either they will be able to tell you what needs to be changed, or if you need a replacement.
