Modem problems

Hi,
I've got a problem with my modem. Basically, when I shut down the computer I have to first uninstall the modem. If I don't, when I start up the computer again it will not go all the way into Windows, it just freezes up and refuses to do anything.
The only way around this is to then go into Safe Mode and uninstall the modem, and then restart the computer. It goes in normally, and the computer detects the modem and installs it.
It works fine this way, it's just annoying having to uninstall and reinstall the modem all the time.
The modem installed is called "3Com Windows Modem TI". Any suggestions, or is furhter information needed?

Thanks in advance,

John

Hi,

After installing a modem, check IRQ conflict in device manager. If you see any conflict, set modems I/O address and Interrupt manually.

What's on your COM ports?
When you install a modem, which COM it goes?

If you already have a device on COM1 or COM2 and if modem tries to take COM3 or COM4, you may experience IRQ conflict, because COM3 and COM4 on most modems are preset to IRQ4 and 3 which used by COM1 and 2.
