 Ok, here's what I've had to do... About every tenth time I go to connect to the internet (not cable) I get an "Error 666 - Your modem is not funtioning or not plugged in". It's something very close to that message anyway...so, The ONLY thing I've found to work is to shut down, remove & clean the modem, restart (without modem installed), shut down again, install modem and restart! Then it works fine...doesn't have to reinstall or anything..it just works!
When I'm having the problem and go to control panel/system/device manager, it shows no modem at all...but control panel/modems shows the dang thing installed...!? I've just been considering buying a new modem to see if that's it, but thought I'd ask to see if anyone has run into this...the computer not recognizing the modem.
I have win98, internal modem. When it's working, it shows my "V.90 PCI Windows Modem (LHV)" in Device Manager, when it's not, it dissappears! Also..sorry to babble...at times in control panel/modems another will show up (not there now!) something like "LT Win Modem" ??? Conflict or what? Under diagnostics it shows (when working!) my modem on comm 4. Any ideas??? Thanks a bunch..tburg

Good site! Not sure about my situation tho, almost sounds like I have a bad board connect that flares up on a regular basis...hmmm. What should I use to clean the board connector strip and the strip it plugs into?? Any other suggestions? Thanks again.
