MKV Files Transferred to External HDD Get Corrupted

Greetings,

I recently purchased an one terabyte external hard drive (PROKING) off Amazon for the specific purpose of filling it up with MKV files of my favourite TV series. As I began to transfer files I came into this recurring issue where the last transferred files simply do not work when executed.

Of the above listed files, the last three MKVs refuse to boot. This is what happens when I try doing so:

I have looked everywhere for solutions, tried to format this hard drive (without success), changed cables, used totalcommander for transferring the files, and nothing seems to stop this problem.

My laptop is a ASUS G771JM (Windows 8.1), the hard drive is formatted under exFAT.

Two items come to mind;
1 Format the external drive as NTFS
2 Very often laptop usb ports do not have enough pw for an external drive. Does your usb cable use a single or dual end? Does it look like the pic below?

FWIW I would really get rid of your current external drive and go with a name brand unit ie WD.

Following your advice I formatted the external drive to NTFS:

However a few seconds later it gave me this message:
Rectangle Font Parallel Magenta Screenshot

In properties it shows like this but I don't think the format was properly done:
Colorfulness Product Font Material property Magenta

As for the USB cable it's a single end.

If the drive cannot be formatted, it really is only two possibilities;
1 Drive is failing
2 Not enough pw due to the single connector

As I said, I would really go with a name brand external.

Which brand would you recommend (available on Amazon) that is of good quality and price?
I use WD drives in almost all builds.

Can you recommend a specific model with at least one terabyte storage capacity?
I have two of these and they work without problems;
