Missing icons in the Control Panel is often a symptom of virus infections as well as spyware infestation.

For viruses, a full system scan with an up-to-date anti-virus program. If you don't have one installed, free online scans are available from Panda and /URL=http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_pcc.asp]Housecall[/URL].

For spyware, download, install, immediately update and then run Spybot and/or Ad-Aware. Read the help files to familiarize yourself with how they work. I recommend you use them both since each tends to find things the other misses. Let them clean up any spyware found.
