I've been having problems with Outlook 2000. I don't have access because of an OLE registration error and that it isn't correctly installed. It isn't opening and I'm told to run set up, but that won't fix the problem. Then I uninstall it and install again and Outlook hasn't changed and I get the same OLE error message. When I uninstalled Office 2000 I lost all of my contacts in Outlook Express 5. When I reinstalled all of my contacts were back. Is reformatting my HD the only answer? Thanks.

Hi Jettero23,

Welcome to the board!.

Before uninstalling or updating Outlook Express, let alone formatting anything, it's alway wise to back up your Outlook Express data:

Address Book: OE/Tools/address Book/export/address book.wab

More detailed info: http://www.tomsterdam.com/insideoe5/backup/index.htm

But could you tell us the exact text of your error message?

Here is the error msg: An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly installed. Run Setup again for the problem.

I did this, but to no avail. I also received another post pointing me to a SR-1, SR-1a. I tried downloading this, but it said that an authenticode couldn't be found, or something like that and then wouldn't download the SR program.

Install the service release for Office and it will fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q249/7/68.asp
Thank you for your reply.

I tried to download that program, but I got an "Authenticode could not be found" error and the program didn't download. I'm going to download it instead of running it from the current location. Maybe this will help.

Thanks.

Hi Jettero23,

Try this: Go to Add-remove programs, highlight MS Office, and click Remove.
You wil get a Window providing you with the choice of repairing Office as well.
You will need your Office CD-ROM
Windows will now replace missing and corrupted Office files, and register all dlls that are not.

Good luck,
I did try that, but to no avail. I have since reformatted my drive, after backing up, and now I have more problems than before. At first I couldn't access my modem, now I can-after shutting down and starting up again. Before I had access to my modem I restored my backup. Now I can't access control panel; I get an error msg and when I click on okay I loose the application. I think that I need to reformat again, but I don't want to run into these problems again. My backup/restore did include system files. Do you now have any sugguestions?

Thanks.
