I am hoping someone may be able to help. I need to use the speech recorder provided by Windows ME so I borrowed a microphone as the plug is colored pink I connected it to the pink connection on the back of my PC, but it does not seem to work, I tried another one but still no joy. I have made sure that microphone is selected as a recording device in my audio settings. Does anyone know what may be wrong?

All help gratefully accepted.

just a thought...double click on the speaker icon in the systray, go to Options>Properties and choose Recorder, now make sure recorder is not muted.

Hope this helps,

Does your machine have an audio card or chipset that has an audio center? Usually they'll be an icon in the system tray that opens an audio configuration window.

One of mine (SoundMaxx) has a radio button choice between "Standard Microphone" and "Headset". The impedance difference is so different that choosing headset over microphone mutes the mic. There is also a mic setup wizard to help with input volume levels.

I've seen cases where the volume is set so low that it registers on a meter or graph but you can't hear it.

double click on the sound/volume control in the bottom right.
go to microphone, make sure the sound is up and mute is unchecked. also, go to advanced... try unchecking "mic2 select" and checking "mic boost".....that fixed my problem
